How to Create PressReady PDFs For Tulip Graphics Using Adobe Photoshop CS:
While Photoshop isn't generally recommended for use as a layout application, it is possible to compose an entire page in Photoshop. To send Tulip Graphics a PressReady PDF of a Photoshop layout:
- Make sure your Photoshop file also conforms to all of the standards in the “General Guidelines for Images” section.
- If the artwork in your Photoshop layout extends all the way to the edge of the page, you'll want to build the file at the document’s trim size PLUS a quarter inch on each dimension (for example, if you are creating an 8.5" x 11" page, your Photoshop file should be 8.75" x 11.25" (but make sure all “live” elements stay within the trim size).
- Use the "Save As..." command and select Photoshop PDF as the file format.
- If you are using Adobe Photoshop CS2 (for Mac OSX), click here to download the Tulip Graphics PDF preset. Unzip and copy this file to the following location on your hard drive:
Library/Application Support/Adobe PDF/Settings. Note that this preset will now be available in all of your Adobe CS2 applications.
- If you are using a PC or the CS1 version of Photoshop, proceed to the next step.
- In the subsequent dialog box, select JPEG Encoding, and set Quality to 12 (Maximum).
- Check Save Transparency (if it isn't grayed out, in which case your file doesn't use transparency).
- Do not check Image Interpolation.
- Do not check PDF Security.
- If your file has editable type in it, you should check Include Vector Data and Use Outlines for Text (if you think there may be text edits, you can check Embed Fonts).
